Day one - started with a trip to Heber Valley to paint the Provo river. It was full of rushing dark water crowded with fly fishermen. This area was very pretty, it has pastures, rivers, farmlands, barns, and large mountain ranges. I really wish I could be there in the summer when everything was green.
Day two & three I spent up on the mountain resort ski slope painting in the aspens. I think this shocked many skiers. I could see it in there faces as they zoomed by that it wasn't the norm to see someone painting in the clumps of trees between slopes, so I just smiled and waved. Most nodded hello, and a few even came over to check out my work.
I painted the above 12" x 16" canvas on the slopes of Dutchmans Pass. It was 25-27 degrees, really cold, for a southern girl. But I was able to paint a couple of snow scenes. I found the contrast between the snow and the aspen trees a very paintable subject. The snow was a chance for me to work on painting a white subject matter. I focused on all the colors visible in the snow, not the white of it. I don't get a lot of snow in Texas, so this was a fun challenge!
