Travels of a plein air painter

Painting water reflections is always a challenge, but by consentrating on shapes of color instead of painting what you think you see, can really help.

In the above painting, I was pleasently surprised when I got it home.  It looked so pale and unstructured out in the field.  But after seeing it up on my mantle, I realized that it was much more successful than I earlier thought!  It seems that too often, I hastily wipe of a painting in the frustrated heat of the moment.   Also, I used four colors to paint it, Hmmm,  looks like I should try that more often.

This was really fun, I think I need to paint boats again! Maybe tomorrow!
